Welcome to 45th Cheltenham (Bethesda) Beavers, Cubs and Scouts website.

The 45th Cheltenham (Bethesda) Scout Group was first formed in 1925 and has offered Scouting continuously ever since.

We are based at the well-equipped Bethesda Church Hall in Great Norwood Street in the historic Suffolk’s area of southern Cheltenham. Our Group comprises two Beaver Colonies, two Cub Packs and a large Scout Troop.

Our adult team of volunteers (20) provide a full range of life changing skills and activities for young people between the ages of 6 to 14.

All adults have DBS clearance, insurance cover, are full members of the Scout Association and have Scouting Leadership training that meets the needs of the young people, in line with the Scouting Programme.

Our section nights have a wide ranging and balanced programme which encourage our young people to develop their skills and personalities. We also take part in District and County events such as chess, football, swimming and cooking. Each section takes part in nights away – sleepovers for Beavers, Cubs enjoy Pack Holidays and Cub Camps. The Scouts participate in the Strategy Challenge weekend camp (a national scouting event), Canal boating and various Scout Camps throughout the year.

Bethesda Methodist Church has supported the scout group since we were founded and it continues to do so, the facilities are excellent. We attend Church Parades four times a year (one of the only chances the members will get to carry the section flag!).

The Group is managed by the Group Scout Leader (GSL) Mr. Steve Reis, who coordinates the Sections and represents the Group at District level.

The Group has a Trustee Board whose main function is to support the Group Scout Leader.

The Trustee Board is a team of volunteers who work together to make sure the Scout Group is run safely and legally.  Their support helps other volunteers run a fantastic programme that gives young people skills for life (and experiences they will remember forever).

You’ll find useful information about the various sections in their respective sub-sections.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further information.

Could you volunteer?

The answer is yes! We’ve got plenty of big things and loads of small things that you could do to help make a difference and be part of a team delivering exciting opportunities for young people.
